welcome to Oaklings podcast, Season 1, where I talk with inspirational people who grow the arts with children and young people!
In the first episode, I interview Maria Luisa Carvalho.
Maria Luísa is an illustrator and art educator based in Porto.
She studied illustration at Cambridge School of Art.
She is all about analog and enjoys using a range of materials in an intuitive and informal way.
Luísa is passionate about design, colour, drawing from life and printmaking. She likes to capture the poetry in the mundane.
Luísa is working as a freelance illustrator, namely as a Live Sketcher at events. Her book cover for ‘The Secret Garden’ was selected for the long list on the World Illustration Awards 2022.
Luísa is engaged in work with children and eager to explore new and interesting ways to approach art.
Currently, she’s developing and teaching at ‘Papoila ao Vento’, a shared project of informal education through art for children.
In her education work she is committed to creating a safe environment for children of different skill levels, interests and abilities. She believes that fostering creativity and knowledge about the art world are essential tools for our future.
